The New Year Within

Being back on the farm in the Free State for the holidays, I am reminded of where it all started. The new year brings with it the energy of new possibilities, new beginnings, and the excitement of the unknown. After an incredible year in South Africa I feel rejuvenated, full of love and appreciation for life, and I trust the year ahead will be bright. I trust life.

The year 2013 wasn’t always easy, despite sounding like a dream. I was granted the freedom to travel, to work part-time remotely from the farm and Cape Town, allowing me to pursue writing, to start this blog, and to have the time to explore and reflect. It was a journey that was profoundly revealing and inspirational.

There were days when I wondered what exactly is it that I am doing? Not just what am I doing today, but what am I doing in South Africa, why am I here, and what am I doing in this life, on this planet?

Today I am writing, and I am in South Africa because one day my boyfriend and I decided that we were going to jump out of an open window filled with light and possibilities, and we would just grow wings on the way down.

It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I believe that is the key in life: to keep growing, to take chances, to fill your heart with love rather than fear. Stay curious, expand your awareness, and trust the process. Smile at it.

So here’s to a bright new year, to 2014. Be a person who dreams and does things. Make some interesting mistakes along the way. And never stop learning.
